South on US-27. Run US-27 down the edge of the Everglades, then swing east on I-75 and I-595 straight into the airport. Fewer traffic lights, almost no congestion, and it neatly avoids the I-95 corridor entirely. When a weekday pickup would put us on I-95 through Boca and Deerfield between 4 and 7 p.m., US-27 wins even though the mileage is similar.

Either way, plan on about an hour and 25 minutes of driving in normal conditions, and closer to an hour 45 if the schedule forces the coastal route at peak.

When to schedule the pickup

Working backward from a departure at FLL:

• Domestic flight: arrive 2 hours early, add the 90-minute drive, add a 20-minute cushion. For a 10 a.m. flight, we ring your doorbell at 6:10.
• International or holiday travel: stretch the cushion to 30-40 minutes.
• Early-morning flights are actually the easy ones — the roads out of the Glades are empty at 4 a.m. and the drive runs quick.

Your driver watches the flight before leaving the garage, so a delayed departure can shift the pickup rather than strand you at the terminal five hours early.
