The road east

The run to PBI follows the south rim of the lake: US-27 to SR-80 through South Bay and Belle Glade, then Southern Boulevard (US-98) straight east into West Palm Beach — the airport sits right off Southern, which makes the final approach painless. It is honest two-lane and four-lane Florida driving most of the way, about an hour and 30 minutes in normal conditions. Fog over the sugar fields on early winter mornings is the one variable we genuinely pad time for; harvest truck traffic on SR-80 is the other.

There is no meaningful shortcut. Anyone quoting you under 75 minutes for this trip is planning to speed through towns where deputies know better.

Scheduled car versus the alternatives

Your realistic options from Harlem, laid out plainly:

• Ask a friend or family member. Free, until it costs a favor, a 5 a.m. wake-up on their part, and a return pickup a week later.
• Drive yourself and park. PBI parking is reasonable for short trips, but two lake-road drives bracket your vacation and week-plus parking bills add up.
