Our default is the Turnpike south from the Lake Worth Road entrance down to I-595, then east into the airport — it is a few minutes longer on paper but far more predictable, because the Turnpike carries lighter commuter volume than I-95 through Delray, Boca, and Deerfield. When the highways are both clear, either works; when it is 7:30 on a Tuesday morning, the Turnpike usually wins by 15 minutes or more. Leaving on time

For a domestic flight out of FLL, leave Greenacres about three hours before departure on a weekday morning, two and a half hours otherwise. That builds in the drive, the two-hour airport standard, and a modest buffer for the I-595 approach, which bunches up where the Turnpike, I-95, and airport traffic all converge. Red-eye and dawn departures are the easiest runs of the day — we operate around the clock, so a 3:30 a.m. pickup is normal business.
